PEN/Faulkner Foundation

"The Real DC" Through the PEN/Faulkner Writers-In-Schools program, Ballou 10th grader Da'quan was exposed to the work of Dwayne Betts, a local author. The visit inspired this poem.

DTSB & Co. seeks to clarify the issues surrounding the Asian-American experience through dance. In addition to their international tours on behalf of the State Department, DTSB also conducts cultural outreach programs to Asian-American DC public high school students.

Women's Collective PSA

The Women's Collective provides HIV care and prevention services for women, girls and families in DC. We collaborated with their leadership class for 9-12th grade girls to make this PSA which was shown at the National Women and Girls HIV Awareness Day events on March 10, 2010 and for local broadcast on Comcast.


DCVLP

DCVLP represents the most vulnerable communities in the legal system. Their mission is to provide free civil legal services to DC's low-income women, children and families in cases involving domestic violence, custody, foster care and adoption.

Sinai House

Established in 1992 by members of Temple Sinai Synagogue, Sinai House provides 2-year transitional housing, financial literacy, and parental support to formerly homeless families.

Condom PSA

Stone Soup Films, working with the Sexually Transmitted Infections Community Coalition (DCSTICC) sponsored a PSA contest on the importance of using condoms. The winning script was written and stars youth from the Wright House after school program.

Life Pieces To Masterpieces

Life Pieces To Masterpieces is a non-profit, arts-based, comprehensive after school youth development organization. They serve boys and young men ages 3 to 21 living in low-income and public housing east of the Anacostia River in DC.

Life Pieces To Masterpieces – Poem

Andre Johnson has been coming to Life Pieces for 11 years. He joined a group of boys to write "Against All Odds", a poem based on the practice of gang members in their neighborhood marking territory by hanging shoes over power lines.

Bread for the City

Bread for the City provides food, social, legal and medical services to our neediest population. The demand for medical services grew to capacity. This piece was used to kick off a large capital campaign to expand the medical clinic in order to see twice as many people.
